Associate/Senior Accountant

The Role
As an Associate/Senior Accountant, you will manage and service an allocated client portfolio on behalf of the firm, ensuring accounting, tax, and advisory requirements are delivered efficiently and to a high professional standard.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned clients
- Reviewing annual financial statements, GST returns, and income tax returns
- Preparing budgets and supporting advisory engagements
- Liaising with banks, solicitors, and Inland Revenue
- Monitoring WIP and contributing to billing performance
- Providing guidance and mentoring to junior team members
- Contributing to process improvement initiatives
This is a client-facing role with accountability, working as part of a team where client relationships remain those of the firm.
About You
You will be:
- Qualified
- Experienced in New Zealand public practice
- Confident reviewing financial statements and tax work
- Commercially aware and comfortable liaising with external stakeholders
- Able to manage competing priorities and deadlines
Experience in rural or agribusiness accounting would be advantageous but is not essential.
You will also bring:
- Strong Xero capability
- Confidence using IRD portals and Microsoft 365
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
- The ability to mentor and support developing staff
